"No Desk" Day

Well, the No Desk Day was a success!  We were actually able to carry on a regular school day without any desks!  I took the first picture while the kids were at recess.  It looks like a giant sleepover party!

Limeades for Learning

Please take the time once a day to vote for my Limeades for Learning project for our classroom!  Help us get more books for Reader's and Writer's workshop!  Sonic has teamed up with Donorschoose.org and will fully fund the projects with the most votes each week.  If you go to Sonic, you can get stickers for extra votes.  You can enter them yourselves at home or send them to school for me to enter!  Last year I got three projects funded...so please vote!

Homecoming Parade Fun!

It was fun to participate in the Homecoming parade for Park Hill this year!  But the bonus was being followed by the students of Tiffany Ridge as they walked in the parade.  I thought I brought TONS of candy...but I was a little too generous in the beginning of the parade and was out of candy halfway through!  Ugh!

Which soil will grass grow in best?

In science we are using the scientific process to investigate which soil grass will grow in best.  We have three types of soil: loam, clay, and sand.  Students worked in small groups to set up the experiment and use measurement tools to make sure we are keeping the variables the same.  Stay tuned for our results...

Remember the song "The Future's so Bright (I Gotta Wear Shades)"??  Well, that's what I thought of when I saw these brightly dressed kiddos today!!

Homecoming Parade

Friday is the Park Hill Homecoming Parade starting at 5:00 pm. Information was emailed out in the Friday Tiffany Ridge news. I will be in the parade as Park Hill Teacher of the Year! I will be in the first car right behind the marching band. Tiffany Ridge students and parents will follow that. I hope that you will join us and walk in the parade, or at least in attend! I will be throwing out candy, as will many others. The parade starts at Prairie Point Elementary and continues over to Park Hill HS, ending near the baseball fields. Let me know if you plan on attending, so I can watch for you!

EnVision this!

We have been getting into our routines with our new math series.  As you've probably read in the weekly Tiffany Ridge newsletter, we will be having a Math Night on Thursday, October 8 from 5:30-7:00.  That night is meant to give you a chance to come see the different components of our daily math workshop.  Here are a few pictures of students playing some of the games and using some of the technology pieces of EnVision.

Technology Tuesday

Well, today we took some time to get students set up with accounts to online tools we will use this year.  Some of the tools include: Prezi, Voki, Edmodo, and KidBlog.  We reviewed how to send and receive emails and how to open and save a PowerPoint.  The kids are certainly excited to use technology, and we are so fortunate to have 12 student laptops in our classroom!

AR Success

Congratulations to Cali for being our first classmate to score 100% on an Accelerated Reader quiz!  Cali got to pick a sucker from our Dum-Dum tree!  I hope we have many more students this year that earn this special reward!

Germination

As you know we have been learning about the function of plant parts.  This week we are investigating which seeds will germinate fastest. Each table group worked together to set up the materials and have been taking turns watering the seeds.  Many students are predicting that the pinto bean will germinate first. We will soon discover whose predictions are correct!
