Genius Hour

We have spent 5-6 hours over the past three weeks for students to learn about a topic of their choice.  Students have been in charge of their own learning and research.  Some are working in partners, but most are working alone.  Students each decided how they wanted to "share their learning".  Some are doing digital presentations, others are demonstrating, some made models, some wrote a report, and others made posters. On Friday, we will have a school-wide THINK TANK for students to share with others what they have been leaning.  Exciting!

Class Meeting

For our class meeting this week, we went around the room and wrote compliments about eachother.  It was good practice for us to focus on kind words, especially during this time of year when we seem to be a little "testy" with one another.  I think it gave us all a positive boost to hear the NICE things our friends had to say about us!

This week we have been learning about shadows.  We went outside and traced a shadow of a pencil at 9:30, 12:30 and 3:15.  We observed how the length and position of the shadow changed throughout the day.

Braeden cuts the tie!

Good job, Braeden!
P.S. There's a giant FLY on your face!

Teacher of the Year acceptance speech

This week (in the middle of all of the health issues going on with my dad!) I attended the Park Hill Service Awards Banquet. Teacher of the Year was the last award of the night, and I received a very nice plaque. My husband, mom, grandpa, and sister attended with me, along with a number of Tiffany Ridge teachers. This is a video of my acceptance speech. It was taken with a phone, so it's not exactly the best quality. But I wanted to share it with you anyway!
