Today we did a science investigation to see how matter can change. Matter can have either physical or chemical changes. Heat can also cause matter to change states from a solid to a liquid or from a liquid to a gas.

Scoot!

This week we have been practicing multiplication strategies. Some strategies include repeated addition, skip counting, equal groups, and arrays. Today we reviewed with a game called SCOOT. Students moved from desk to desk as they answered the problems. It's a fun way to review while getting some movement in, too!

My Name is Bilal

Today our Park University student, Ms. Heller, taught a lesson about cultural diversity. Bilal and Ayesha were Muslim students. Bilal was embarrassed of his name, until his teacher gave him a book to read about a famous Muslim with his name. This book also addressed a bullying theme and how Bilal's sister was teased for wearing a head covering. The students were very engaged in making predictions and inferences throughout the story.

3-Digit Subtraction Using Models

We have been learning 3-digit subtraction with regrouping strategies.  Our math series does a great job in making sure the students understand concepts and not just shortcuts or rules.  I truly believe that by using the place value blocks, students have a concrete understanding of what it means to regroup.

Timberwolf TREK Walk-a-thon

Look at these third graders!  They were ready to WALK at recess for the Timberwolf Trek!  I love the hats and crazy socks!  A packet is coming home tonight for them to collect their pledges.  I hope everyone will try to participate in some small way.

Outstanding Behavior

Way to go, Thelma!  She is our first student to fill out her punch card with 20 punches. This means she got on Outstanding 20 times this year on the clip chart. Way to follow those Timberwolf PACK expectations.

Limeades for Learning

Please take the time once a day to vote for my Limeades for Learning project for our classroom!  Help us get more books for Reader's and Writer's workshop!  Sonic has teamed up with Donorschoose.org and will fully fund the projects with the most votes each week.  If you go to Sonic, you can get stickers for extra votes.  You can enter them yourselves at home or send them to school for me to enter!  Last year I got three projects funded...so please vote!

Homecoming Parade Fun!

It was fun to participate in the Homecoming parade for Park Hill this year!  But the bonus was being followed by the students of Tiffany Ridge as they walked in the parade.  I thought I brought TONS of candy...but I was a little too generous in the beginning of the parade and was out of candy halfway through!  Ugh!

Which soil will grass grow in best?

In science we are using the scientific process to investigate which soil grass will grow in best.  We have three types of soil: loam, clay, and sand.  Students worked in small groups to set up the experiment and use measurement tools to make sure we are keeping the variables the same.  Stay tuned for our results...
